Should you test for radon?
Testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels. There are no immediate symptoms that will alert you to the presence of radon. It typically takes years of exposure before any problems surface. The EPA, Surgeon General, American Lung Association, American Medical Association, and National Safety Council recommends testing your home for radon because testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels.
Radon is a national environmental health problem. Elevated radon levels have been discovered in every state. The EPA estimates that as many as 8 million homes throughout the country have elevated levels of radon.
Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. You cannot see, smell or taste radon, but it may be a problem in your home. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, you’re at high risk for developing lung cancer.
A SunRADON 1028XP monitor is placed in the home for a period of 48 hours. During this time the levels are being checked by the monitor. The monitor is then retrieved and the results are emailed to the client at the pick up. This is all preformed by a licensed radon specialist(me) which is regulated by the state of Ohio.
Radon mitigation is any process used to reduce radon gas concentrations in the breathing zones of occupied buildings, or radon from water supplies.
Mitigation of radon in the air is accomplished through ventilation, either collected below a concrete floor slab or a membrane on the ground, or by increasing the air changes per hour in the building. Treatment systems using aeration or activated charcoal are available to remove radon from domestic water supplies.
